…again this week and remembering what I wrote the day after Christmas last year when I first saw it:

There is every probability that this was written just after his election and that Russell T. Davies was and/or is a member of the hopey-changey Obamacult. I suspect British actors are even farther left than Hollywood so it would be no surprise. It is also possible that he is making fun of said cult but I doubt it.

Alas the shooting schedule and the filming didn’t account for the crash and burn of international opinion of the president, it gives the episode an anachronistic quality will make many conservatives laugh at the reminder of those foolish messianic days.

Wikipedia states that Shooting began in March of 2009 (for non controversial stuff it’s an ok source). That likely means the writing took place right after the election.

It was something to see the change in international opinion since the episode was broadcast, in just 7 months his domestic popularity has also dropped like a rock.

At the time it was on, I was annoyed, couldn’t I escape the Obama Messiah syndrome even in Doctor Who? Today looking back seeing that the nation has been mostly cured of that odd illness it brings a smile, like that of a person remembering a rough patch that is behind him.

The end of the obamacult has been a healthy thing for a society. Let’s hope the media remembers the lessons learned.

If your goal is to make a political point then ranking a sitting president all time is useful, but frankly any group that ranks President Obama over Reagan is idiotic and not to be trusted.

In terms of ranking he also has the unfair disadvantage of the expectations game, if you compare him to expectations he would rank near Hoover except that he didn’t have you know anything near the actual accomplishments of Hoover before the presidency.

My own rankings of presidents is here but they are not numerical they are by group. I still think he has to potential to end up almost anywhere in the list because of the major crisis that he has to deal with. The trick is the results of many of them aren’t going to be apparent for a while, maybe even not until years after he is out of office.

I don’t care for this president, but it’s just not fair to try and rank his place in history right now. I’m too close to it and there are too many variables.

For example regardless of the reason for it the appointment of Petraeus could dramatically change things, if congress changes sides as is likely how he manages to work with such a congress can make a difference. We are still not even half way into his first term.

Do I expect positive changes? Frankly no, but that doesn’t mean the can’t or won’t happen. He is the president of my country and I want the best for my country, I don’t think he will bring it but I’d be very happy if he did.

When those historians rank this president where they do they once again create a set expectations that have great potential to be unmet. They serve him and the country very poorly.

Update: Smitty makes the same point I did

He calls out Morning Joe over covering for Obama and isn’t shy about it. You have 3-4 to one going after him, Joe is sitting back, but Mika, Barnicle, Ratigan, and Cramer are all going after him and they aren’t laying a glove on him. In fact Ratigan seems to be conceding points! Money quote from Rudy:

“I know you love him and want to protect him but the people of this country are more important than the president.”

Rudy is the only person who I’ve ever voted for when there was a clear pro life choice as an alternative because he leads.

…that fits the “If you start from the idea…” meme to a T:

Students are directed to chant “I am an Obama scholar.”

do the people who run the school system over there have any memory of history? A commentator there nails it perfectly:

Quick quiz: name five countries, past or present, where the youths were required to chant praises to their omnipotent ruler? Any five. Then add together the number of innocent people those regimes slaughtered for political expediency.

Repeat after me: “If you start with the idea…
