A license to get a license, a fee to get an application, the joy of collecting bills.

When you are a one man operation it is a lot of work and a lot of tension.

Oh and Rush Limbaugh is right. If you want to really appreciate how much you are paying in taxes, try paying them without large amounts of withholding. You will really get it. It’s like the prices at rental places. It seems small but the end result is pretty high.

  1. My step dad-in-law runs his own little service, too–home inspections–and I keep trying to get him to guest post on the difficulties. His only employee is his son, and he has to spend twice what his son ends up getting to employ him.

My other dad-in-law had a handful of employees at his locksmith shop, and it was getting harder. He’s so glad to have found a buyer and gotten out before the squeeze gets tighter.

Folks who’ve never tried to run their own business often don’t realize how much our freedoms have been restricted thru commercial regulation at all levels of gov’t.
