As you might be aware last weekend I was a guest host on WCRN 830 AM radio’s show Conservatively Speaking. WCRN is a 50,000 watt station in Worcester Ma the 2nd largest city in the state. WCRN as a 50k watt station is one of those stations that (particularly when the sun goes down) has some serious range.
Apparently the appearance went VERY well. Much better than expected, so much so that I’ve been asked to submit a proposal for my own 1 hour show on Saturday nights (Saturday is their all political talk day). The proposal was submitted today and I am awaiting an answer.
Because of the nature of the business and the fact that I am, lets face it, unknown outside of the political and blog arenas it’s going to be necessary before jumping in with both feet for me to sell enough advertising to at least break even before the highest known authority gives the critical go ahead (namely DaWife).
So here is the deal, I have 12 min of ads to sell on the show, from 15 seconds to 60 second spots. I figure I need about a month’s worth of commitments in order to get the ball going to see if the show can work. I’ll be hustling locally of course with local places, but since the show does have a live stream and will be a show about what’s on blogs and with bloggers as guests it should attract enough of an online audience to make it worth the while of people outside of the normal range of the station to decide to get in on the ground floor.
In addition I plan to offer simple $10 sponsorships saying something like: “This show is sponsored by datechguy’s blog at datechguy.wordpress.com” etc etc etc I figure I can squeeze in about 10 of those a show so if you are a blogger looking to drive a few hits your way for $10 for one week or $40 for one month you will get a mention on a 50,000 watt station whose audience will be political junkies and people who read blogs.
If you are a political/advocacy non-profit that is looking to fundraise or promote an event this is also a good show for an ad. With a political and blogger audience the your pitch will go directly to the people most likely to be interested in it.
I don’t expect to become the next Rush Limbaugh but I hope to be an interesting DaTechGuy, so if you want to get in on the ground floor as they say, send me an e-mail at DaTEchGuyAtCom CastDotNet with the proper symbols substituted for the address listed and I’ll get back to you with more details, or leave a message in comments with a working e-mail and I’ll give you a shout back.
Update: I’m not asking for dough right now, Just the commitment for the ads, We can work out the details afterward as soon as I have the solid launch date. And Steve at No Runny eggs is a hell of a guy for giving me a plug. YDM!
Update 2: I’ve had a tip jar hit or two since this went up. If you insist on hitting DaTipJar at once instead of just sending the e-mail commitment please mention in the comment section if it is for an ad or a sponsorship so you get the return for your money that you deserve.
