…because the potential suit from this case is going to be the easiest money they will ever earn:

Galli says he and his friends were sitting at a table during brunch break when the Vice Principal asked two of the boys to remove American flag bandannas that they wearing on their heads and for the others to turn their American flag t-shirts inside-out. When they refused, the boys were ordered to go to the principal’s office.

“They said we could wear it on any other day, but today is sensitive to Mexican Americans because it’s supposed to be their holiday so we were not allowed to wear it today,” Daniel Galli said.

The boys said the administrators called their t-shirts “incendiary” that would lead to fights on campus.

“They said if we tried to go back to class with our shirts not taken off, they said it was defiance and we would get suspended,” Dominic Maciel, Galli’s friend, said.

Hey lets ask the NBA if they back this school district too.

Update: Michelle Malkin and Zombie pick up the story. Zombie has a particularly salient point concerning “racism”:

Even worse, fearing violence from Hispanic students, the administrators solve the crisis by banishing the “offensive” items, rather than warning students that any violence will be severely punished. In other words, the racist administrators insultingly assumed that their Hispanic students would erupt in violence at the sight of an American flag, and the only way to prevent this is to cower at the presumptive violence and preemptively cave in to the mob’s demands that American flags be banned from campus.

That is racism. Apparently the administrators consider their Mexican students so violent, so unable to control themselves that it was necessary to remove American flags from the student minority. Astounding!

Foxnews reports that over 100 students were sighted leaving this same campus at the end of the school day withMexican flags on their shirts and displaying painted Mexican flags on their faces and arms. These students said it was important to display their “national pride”. Sooo . . . Mexican national pride is to be celebrated, but United States national pride is “incindiary”. Am I missing something?

This entire episode makes me want to ask everyone celebrating “Mexican Pride” one simple question: If your country is so great and you’re so proud of it, why are you fighting so hard to stay in the United States? It only seems logical that if all of these people have such grand opinions of Mexico, they would choose to live THERE instead of HERE. If you feel it’s more important to fly the Mexican flag than it is to fly the Amercian flag, you’re in the wrong country.

  4. Abuelita says:

Yes, you are. You’re missing the resentment of a lot of proud Americans whose ancestors came to this country legally, and are tired of seeing our youngsters having Mexican loyalty crammed down their throats. And I’ll wager half of those students are undocumented.

American born Hispanics should be the most outraged about this. We are NOT Mexican. We are AMERICAN, and we certainly do NOT owe Mexico anything, INCLUDING our loyalty.

Someday, if Mexico is foolish enough to start a war with the USA, thinking that every Latino will rally to their cause, Hispanic Americans are going to be in for a rude awakening, as they will be expected to join Mexico in its fight to reconquer the SW US. And Mexico will be in for a rude awakening if they think we WON’T fight to protect our country, when push comes to shove.

  5. Cinco de Mayo is a celebration of Mexican’s successful battle against the French. Even if the red, white, and blue were French, not American (we were busy fighting the Civil War at the time), it still wouldn’t be offensive; the French lost that day.

I mean, it’s not like wearing a Japanese flag on Pearl Harbour Day… and even if it were, the proper response is to make the student look like an attention-seeking fool, not to ban it.

Rant time: do teachers forget what it was like to be kids?! If you want to make something infinitely more cool than it was before; if you want to make kids really, really want to act a certain way; if you want to create the newest “in” thing… BAN IT. When “The Man” comes down and says that some otherwise innocuous thing is banned, it’s cool. It’s in. All the kids want to do it.

I’m just shocked that such mentally-challenged individuals are running a school system.

  6. Bob says:

I called the school as well as the California Dept of Education as a taxpayer to the state to get information and an investigation into this serious matter as it would be unlawful, disrespectful (of the men & women who served and/or died defending their country) and perhaps treasonous . . .and would advise others to do so as well
