Lets not get carried away here

I actually watched all the Clinton Hearings and fully supported and still support the impeachment of Bill Clinton, I trace the decline in democratic honor from the moment of the disgraceful press conference after the initial vote.

That being said, Tancredo’s case for impeachment of president Obama is just off, it has no more justification than the left’s nonsense of the same toward George W. Bush.

I think this president has been disastrous domestically and adequate at best on defense (which was way ahead of my expectations for him) but certainly not impeachable. Most of what this president has done is bad policy, bad decisions, based on a bad philosophy but you don’t impeach that. (The virtual ceding of parts of Arizona to the Mexican Cartels has potential in that direction but we are nowhere near there yet).

Clinton directly lied to a grand jury, this is an actual crime, and he used the power of the presidency to cover that, he was disbarred for this.

There is nothing that Barack Obama has done to this point that rises to that level, being wrong or mistaken is not an impeachable offense and both legally and politically we waste our time going in that direction.

Memeorandum thread here.

Oh and one note, I’m not arguing that Clinton was a worse president than our current one or was worse for the country, I’m arguing the legalities and the purpose of impeachment as a constitutional tool. It should be used sparingly for actual crimes not as a political club.

Update: And of course here are the democrats also talking smack in the other direction, pure hogwash.

I have to disagree with you a bit. Tancredo is an agent provocateur who may get a bit carried away, but only by a measure.

I like Tancredo’s case for impeachment more than Clinton’s. Clinton lied about cheating on his wife in a consensual sexual relationship. Osama Bin Laden was planning attacks on this country and Republicans had control of Congress. Republicans used that control to chase Bill Clinton all around town with a cum stained blue dress. Republicans could have used your time more wisely.

    Here is Tancredo’s main charge:

“Mr. Obama’s most egregious and brazen betrayal of our Constitution was his statement to Sen. Jon Kyl, Arizona Republican, that the administration will not enforce security on our southern border because that would remove Republicans’ desire to negotiate a “comprehensive” immigration bill. That is, to put it plainly, a decision that by any reasonable standard constitutes an impeachable offense against the Constitution. For partisan political advantage, he is willfully disregarding his obligation under Article IV, Section 4 of the Constitution to protect states from foreign invasion.”

I am not for impeachment either, but if you are going to go after him you should at least include his main point. You dismissed his argument without even refuting or citing it.

That said I am not a lawyer, but if what John Kyl said is true what Obama has done to politicize the border is dispicable.

    Cheers!

Generally I would agree with you except it is my family that lives just of the Mexico border in Arizona. I have to worry about my grandchildren every single day because our president cares more about the rights of illegals than he does about the citizens he has taken an oath to defend. When we allow our highest officials to pick and choose which laws they will uphold we are lost.

  3. Carol says:

That was “off” the Mexico border not “of”.

While I would cheer the results of an Obama impeachment*, I agree that he is not worthy of impeachment – at least not by the information we know of. Only if one believes that the ends justify the means, or that the ends are so worthy and the means look so delicious, should we think that impeaching Obama is the answer.

To me, it would be the right wing version of hate crime legislation: don’t like something, so force a bad legal remedy to change things.

*President Biden… wait, I so take that back!

  5. […] You are correct that Tancredo is wrong. I wrote a post called: Let’s not get carried away making that same point. Am I embarrassed by Tancredo being wrong? Not really, so he’s wrong […]
